Eau Claire's Silicon Logic Engineering
Gets First Tax Credit Award
In late February, Governor Jim Doyle announced
that Silicon Logic Engineering, Inc. (SLE), headquartered
in Eau Claire, would receive a $400,000 loan and $54,200
in Technology Zone tax credits to develop a specific semiconductor
intellectual property (SIP) standard that will target high-speed
communication computer chips. The tax credit award is the
first for the I-94 Corridor Technology Zone and for the
State of Wisconsin.
Funding this project is one part of Wisconsin's
new strategy toward promoting technology development and
global competitiveness.
"My ''Grow Wisconsin'' initiative calls
for supporting technology development and innovation in
our business climate," Gov. Doyle said. "I am pleased to
provide this funding to SLE. The State of Wisconsin needs
to do everything it can to stimulate our economy and generate
the additional high-paying jobs needed for Wisconsin's strong
future."
"I am pleased that Commerce could participate
in a project that will help SLE better compete in the semiconductor
chip design market," said Department of Commerce Secretary
Cory L. Nettles. "SLE's project will create 10 new jobs,
retain 38 jobs, and leverage $400,000 in additional investment
for technology research and development."
"This funding is a demonstration of Wisconsin's
effort to assist small businesses and create a stronger
economic future for Wisconsin," SLE President Jeff West
said. "This project will significantly assist SLE's ability
to diversify its offerings and compete globally."
SLE designs silicon chips (application
specific integrated circuits) for the world's leading electronic
systems vendors and semiconductor companies who require
complex chip design expertise. SLE was founded in 1996 by
former Cray Research engineers. For more information, visit
